Watch a dog greet its owner after even a brief separation: the pure, undiluted joy, the full-body engagement, the complete absence of distraction. That is presence in its most honest form.

β€œMaude was my teacher long before she became a character. She taught me to simply be here β€” without agenda.”

Children intuitively sense this. When we guide them to tune in β€” to feel a pet's heartbeat, notice their breathing, watch their eyes β€” we are teaching them the same attunement that underlies empathy itself.

In our household, Maude was my teacher long before she became a character. She would sit beside anyone who was sad, without words, without advice. Just warmth. Just here.

Encourage your child to practice 'pet breathing' β€” sitting quietly beside their animal, matching their breath to the rise and fall of the animal's belly. It sounds simple. It is profound.

🌟 Try It Yourself!

Pet Breathing Practice

Sit quietly beside your pet with your child. Place a hand gently on the animal. Breathe in time with the rise and fall of their belly. Three minutes of this will reset anyone's nervous system.
